Solar 4G vs WiFi Security Camera: Which One Fits Your Site?

"Solar WiFi camera" is a popular search, but the two rarely go together: a place with no power for a camera usually has no WiFi either. This is a straight comparison of the two lines in the SolaGuard catalog — solar cameras on 4G and mains-powered WiFi cameras — so you can choose by where the camera will actually hang.

Which to choose, when

Solar 4G

Choose solar 4G when the spot is more than 20 m from the nearest socket, when WiFi does not reach, or when you want the camera to keep working through a power cut. That is what the line exists for.

Mains WiFi

Choose mains WiFi when a socket and WiFi are already there: cheaper, continuous recording with no battery worries, more housings to pick from. If the WiFi is flaky, take the 4G + WiFi version.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a camera that is both solar and WiFi?

Not in the standard catalog, because real demand is rare — where there is WiFi there is usually power. For OEM orders from 100 units, the factory can configure a solar + WiFi version to order.

Does a solar camera work without 4G signal?

It still records to the memory card, but you get no alerts and no remote viewing. Check the carrier's signal at the mounting spot before buying; where it is weak, an external antenna or a different carrier usually solves it.

Which is cheaper over time?

If power and WiFi are already there, the WiFi camera is cheaper to buy and to run. If you would have to run power or network cable to the spot, that one-off trenching usually costs more than years of SIM plans — then solar 4G is clearly cheaper. Specific wholesale prices are quoted per order.
