Solar Camera Battery Runtime Calculator

The question dealers hear most: "will it still work after a week of rain?" This tool runs the energy balance — how much the battery stores, how much a day of use consumes, how much the panel puts back — and gives the number of fully sunless days the camera can ride out.

Defaults are reference assumptions, not the specification of a particular model. Drag the sliders or type values to match your situation.

Recording mode

AOV raises standby to at least 0.4 W in this model.

Worst-month balance

+12.1Wh/day

The panel covers consumption even in the low-sun month you entered; the battery only has to bridge fully sunless stretches.

Estimate from editable assumptions; not a warranted specification.

How it works

  1. 1
Stored energy = mAh × 3.7 V, times the usable share (default 80%, because the protection circuit never lets the cell run flat).
  2. 2
Daily consumption = standby power × 24 h + active power × (triggers × seconds per clip + live-view minutes). AOV continuous recording has a higher standby draw than motion-only recording.
  3. 3
Daily charge = panel watts × peak sun hours × system efficiency (default 70%: tilt, heat, dust, charge circuit).
  4. 4
Sunless days = usable storage ÷ daily consumption. Rainy-season balance = charge − consumption at the sun hours you enter.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the standby and active power figures come from?

They are typical reference values for battery cameras built on low-power chipsets, not the specification of one model. They are left editable on purpose; if you need measured figures for a specific series for a project, ask when requesting a quote and we will send the factory's test results.

What peak sun hours should I enter?

Vietnam and most of Southeast Asia: 4–5 hours in the dry season, 2–3 in the rainy season. Mexico, Colombia and highland Peru: 4–6. Size for the worst month, not the annual average — the camera dies in the worst month.

What does a negative rainy-season balance mean?

The panel puts back less than the camera uses, so the battery drains over the season. Fixes, cheapest first: lower sensitivity to cut false triggers, reduce live viewing, choose the 20000mAh / 15W line, or specify a larger panel on a custom order.
