The Best Solar Camera for a Farm: A Buyer's Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Pitch
TL;DR
For farm perimeters the right build is 20000mAh + 15W solar, 2K dual-lens, IP66, with AOV continuous recording. Here are the exact models, prices, MOQs and margins behind that answer.
The short answer, before the reasoning
For a working farm — no grid power at the fence line, no WiFi beyond the yard — the best solar camera is a 4G LTE unit with a 20000mAh battery, a 15W solar panel, 2K resolution, IP66 sealing, and AOV (Always-On Video) recording instead of PIR-triggered clips. In our catalogue that specification is the SG-D42G-15F66 series: 16 variants, with wholesale prices quoted per order, and the model most farm buyers standardise on is the SG-D42G-15F66-V1 (2K, 2.0MP×2 dual lens, 20000mAh, 15W, IP66). The smaller 8000mAh / 8W builds are perfectly good on a barn wall or a yard gate that gets clean sun all day. They are the wrong specification for a post at the treeline in the middle of a rainy season, and quoting them for that position is how a distributor collects returns.
That is the answer. The rest of this page is why, what else is in the range, and what the numbers look like when you are buying a container rather than a camera.
Why farms break cameras that work fine everywhere else
A farm is not a small warehouse spread over more hectares. Three things are structurally different, and each one kills a different part of a cheap spec sheet.
Power generation, not power consumption, is the constraint
Every solar camera works in July. The specification is decided by the worst four weeks of the year — the wet season in the Mekong Delta, the overcast stretch in a Colombian coffee highland, the dry-season dust that films over a panel nobody has walked out to clean. The panel is what refills the battery, so the panel is the part that decides whether the camera stays online, and it is the part most catalogues bury.
We ship two panel sizes: 8W and 15W. The step from 8W to 15W is not a marketing tier, it is the difference between a camera that recovers from a bad week and one that does not. The battery range across our AOV models is 8000mAh to 20000mAh, and the 20000mAh cell is paired with the 15W panel for the same reason — a larger reserve is only useful if you can actually refill it.
Practical rule for your sales team: 8W/8000mAh for mounted positions with unobstructed midday sun and easy access; 15W/20000mAh for anything on a perimeter, under partial canopy, or more than a few minutes' walk from a vehicle.
PIR motion detection misses exactly what farms need to see
PIR sensors trigger on a fast-moving heat differential at close range. That describes a person walking past a doorway. It does not describe livestock drifting through a broken fence line at dawn, a vehicle idling at the far end of an access track, or someone moving slowly along a boundary at the edge of the sensor's reach. PIR-triggered cameras produce a folder full of clips of nothing and a gap exactly where the incident was.
AOV — Always-On Video — is continuous 24/7 recording held at low standby draw by AI scene analysis rather than a crude heat trigger. It is an industry-generic term, not a brand feature; ask any factory whether their "solar camera" is AOV or PIR and the answer tells you more than the rest of the datasheet. For agricultural buyers this is the single most important line item, because livestock theft, boundary disputes and equipment loss are all reconstructed after the fact from footage nobody knew they needed.
The environment is abrasive and the install crew is not coming back
Dust, irrigation spray, ammonia in barn air, temperature swings between night and midday. Our outdoor housings are IP66 across the AOV range — we publish that figure and do not round it upward, because an importer who resells a higher ingress claim than the housing was tested to owns the warranty consequences. Where a customer genuinely needs a higher rating, that is a custom conversation with the factory, not a checkbox.
Install time is 5–10 minutes per camera: bracket, angle the panel, insert the SIM and the microSD, done. On a 40-camera farm rollout that is the difference between one day and three, and it is a real line in your customer's quote.
The four AOV series, and where each one belongs
Across the 150-SKU catalogue, 49 SKUs are AOV models in four series, with wholesale prices quoted per order. All are 2K, all IP66, all 4G LTE, all take microSD up to 128GB as standard.
| Series | Variants | Battery | Panel | Optics | Farm fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SG-C41G-10T66-V* | 4 | 8000mAh | 8W | 2K (2.0MP) | Entry single-lens; sheds, feed stores, sunny yard points |
| SG-D42G-10F66-V* | 18 | 8000mAh | 8W | 2K (2.0MP×2 dual lens) | The volume seller — gates, driveways, barn approaches |
| SG-D42G-15F66-V* | 16 | 20000mAh | 15W | 2K (2.0MP×2 dual lens) | Perimeter and remote posts. The farm answer. |
| SG-S43G-10T66-V* | 11 | 8000mAh | 8W | 2K (2.0MP×3 triple lens) | Wide coverage from a single mast where sun is good |
Two more models worth knowing by number when a buyer asks you to price a mixed site: SG-D42G-10F66-V1 for the sunny interior positions, and SG-C41G-10T66-V1 as the cheapest AOV unit that still records continuously. A typical farm quote is not one SKU — it is six to eight 15W units on the boundary and a dozen 8W units inside it. Full specifications for every variant are on the product catalogue.
What this looks like as a business, not a purchase
Margin and order structure
| Item | Terms |
|---|---|
| Dealer margin | 20% from ~10 units, 30% from ~50 units |
| MOQ, trial order | 10 units |
| MOQ, OEM/ODM | 100 units |
| Samples | 7–10 days by air |
| Bulk production | 25–40 days by sea |
| Vietnam delivery | 7–10 business days |
The 10-unit trial exists so you can put cameras on a real farm in your own market — your rainfall, your dust, your carrier's LTE coverage — before you commit stock. Distributors who skip that step and order at the 50-unit tier for the extra margin are the ones who discover a coverage problem with 50 units in a warehouse. Wholesale pricing and the tier structure are set out on the wholesale page.
OEM and private label
OEM/private label is available on every model, including all 49 AOV SKUs, at the 100-unit OEM MOQ. That covers branding, packaging and app presentation. Distributors in Vietnam and Latin America who intend to build a category position rather than resell a Chinese model number should plan for this from the first order, because rebranding a line your customers already know by our part number is harder than starting with yours.
The factory is Shenzhen Leksell, established 2012, TÜV Rheinland certified, with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance — the documentation package importers need for customs and for tender submissions. Our commercial office is in Ho Chi Minh City; we do not run warehouses in Hanoi or Bangkok, and any supplier telling you they hold local stock everywhere is worth a follow-up question.
Questions to put to any factory, including us
- AOV or PIR? If the answer is vague, it is PIR.
- What panel wattage ships with that battery? A large cell behind an undersized panel is a specification that only works in the brochure.
- What is the tested ingress rating, in writing? Not "weatherproof".
- What resolution is standard versus custom? Ours is 1080p–2K standard; 4K exists only as a custom/OEM build, and we would rather say that than let you quote 4K from a stock line.
- Who answers a warranty claim in my timezone, and in what language?
- Are the certificates for this exact model or for a sister model?
Any supplier can be checked against its own catalogue in ten minutes. Ours is published with model numbers and prices precisely so that you can. To price a farm deployment, request samples, or discuss an OEM programme, message WhatsApp +86 188 1869 9870 or email info@solaguard.net — terms for new distributors are on the dealer page.
